A big multi-discipline library, it is the largest public library in Madinah and dates back to more than five decades ago. It is one of the most prominent cultural landmarks in the region.
It is a public library established in 1380 AH in Madinah, in front of the Prophet’s Mosque. Later, the library headquarters was moved to the current location in Al-Bahr neighborhood. Library holdings include books covering the various fields of knowledge, both modern and old. It also holds many collections of rare books and manuscripts. The overall stock of the library exceeds 14,000 books and manuscripts.
Because of the cultural and religious prestige of Madinah in the Islamic world, the government of the Kingdom has taken pains to make a scientific and cultural center of excellence. Therefore, this library was established to be a world-class institution with collections in the various Islamic and other disciplines. It aims to preserve the holdings of endowment libraries in Madinah region.
The library comprises several different facilities, and incorporates various indexing styles. It also provides electronic indexing and search tools.
