It is one of the mosques in which the Prophet (ﷺ) prayed to his Lord to defeat the confederates who had gathered around Madinah to fight the Muslims. His prayer was answered on Wednesday afternoon.

An Overview:

The mosque is located to the west of Mount Sila’. It is in this place that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to invoke Allah’s defeat of the confederates during the Battle of Al-Ahzab. Allah graced him with answering his supplication to inflict defeat on confederate forces. In the same place was built Al-Fateh Mosque.

Its Names:

It was called Al-Fateh (the Conquest) due to the conquest of the Muslims after the attempt of the confederates to invade Madinah. It is called the Confederates Mosque because the Messenger (ﷺ) invokes Allah's defeat of the confederates there. It is also known as the Al-A'la (Supreme) Mosque because it is higher than the surrounding mosques.

Its History:

The mosque was first built by Omar ibn Abdulaziz during his rule of Madinah in the Umayyad era. The mosque had undergone many restorations and renovations in the successive historical periods. It was renewed in 575AH, and was rebuilt in the thirteenth century AH. Finally, it has been renovated and restored during the reign of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman ibn Abdulaziz.

Al-Fateh Mosque is located next to the Trench in the northwest of Madinah. It is about 2 km away from the Prophet’s Mosque. It can be reached via Al-Seeh Street heading north, as well as via Khaled bin Al-Walid Road heading west.
