In this place, blessings overflowed and multiplied for the people of Madinah by virtue of the supplication of the Prophet (ﷺ). In this mosque, the Prophet (ﷺ) declared Madinah as a sanctuary, just as Ibrahim declared Makkah a sanctuary.

An Overview:

Al Suqya Mosque was built on the site where the Prophet Muhammed (Peace be Upon Him) prayed and supplicated Allah while marching to Badr and drank from Al Suqya well next to it. According to historical sources, there are nearly ten wells near the mosque. It was narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) paraded the Muslim army while heading to Badr in Al Suqya, Al-Harra, which is at the western edge of Al-Harra of Madinah. He prayed there and supplicated for the people of Madinah. According to the sources, Omar bin Abdulaziz, may Allah be pleased with him, built this mosque on the site where the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed.Its Virtues:

  • On the site of the mosque, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) invoked blessings for the people of Madinah that Allah would bless them in whatever they buy and sell, and that He would bring them sustenance from everywhere.
  • In this place, the Prophet (ﷺ) declared Madinah a sanctuary, just as Ibrahim declared Makkah a sanctuary.
  • In this place, the Caliph Omar bin Al-Khattab (RA) and the Muslims requested Al-Abbas bin Abd Al-Muttalib, the uncle of the Prophet (ﷺ) to pray when Madinah was hit with drought and the rain was delayed. Al-Abbas prayed and his prayer was answered.

Its History:

  • The mosque was first built by Omar bin Abdulaziz on the site where the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) performed prayer.
  • The mosque deteriorated several times, and was rebuilt on the same building space dating back to the period of Omar bin Abdulaziz’s tenure as governor of Madinah.

Its Current Status:

Now, SuqyaMosque is a small rectangular mosque surmounted by three domes. It has an area of ​​​​120 square meters, and has no minaret. It has been restored as part of the program to rehabilitate historical sites in Madinah. The unique architectural style of the mosque was highly taken in consideration during the restoration process.

Getting to the Mosque:

SuqyaMosque is located in Bab Al-Anbariyah, within the fence of the railway station, and is currently opposite Madinah Municipality building.
