Fash Mosque

Masjid Al Fasẖ: At the base of Mount Uhud, Masjid Al Fash stands as a timeless symbol of unwavering resilience, its stones echoing takbīrāt and weary footsteps. Here, the Prophet ﷺ and his companions sought refuge during the final phase of the Battle of Uhud, embodying steadfastness and sacrifice. Built of stone and plaster on a site graced by the Prophet’s ﷺ prayers, it was restored during the Saudi era to serve as a lasting reminder of patience and perseverance in the face of trial.

Ibn Shabbah narrated from Rāfiʻ Ibn Khadīj: “The Prophet ﷺ prayed in the small masjid at Uhud, in the ravine of Al Jirā̄r, to your right, adjacent to the mountain.” Historical Glimpse: Masjid Al Fash is one of the historical masājid in Al Madīnah Al Munawwarah. It was formerly known as Masjid Jabal Uhud, due to its location on the slope of Mount Uhud, at the entrance to the ravine of Al Jirār, which leads to Al Mahārīs. Some later historians gave it the name Masjid Al Fash. This masjid is important because the Prophet ﷺ reportedly prayed at its location, and it is near where he ﷺ regrouped with the Muslims during the final phase of the Battle of Uḥud—a phase marked by pivotal events. In Shawwāl of the third year after Hijrah, the Prophet ﷺ set out with his companions to the region of Mount Uhud to confront Quraysh, who had come seeking vengeance for their defeat at the Battle of Badr. The battle took place on the slope between Mount Uhud and Jabal Al Rumāh. Initially, victory looked certain for the Muslims, until the archers left their positions, causing the tide to turn in favor of the idolaters. The Prophet ﷺ then withdrew with his Companions into the

ravine of Al Jirār at Mount Uhud, where they repelled the enemy’s attack until the assault was halted and the enemy retreated from the battlefield. The Prophet ﷺ then descended into the field to inspect and tend to his Companions. It is likely that the first construction of the masjid dates back to the governorship of ʻUmar ibn ʻAbdulʻAzīz over Al Madīnah Al Munawwarah, between the years 86–93 AH (705–712 CE), during the Umayyad period (41–132 AH / 661–750 CE). In the Saudi era, the masjid and the surrounding area were revitalized, transforming it into a landmark that continues to inspire countless visitors with the enduring lessons of steadfastness and the sacrifices made by the first generation of the companions of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ
